LOVE ON THE ISSUES

_______________

HEALTHCARE

We must support and augment the Affordable Care Act, by championing proposals to build upon the law, increase access to care, and lower costs.  In addition to the ACA being compassionate towards all Texans.  A strong healthcare system means a strong US workforce.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM

We need criminal justice system reform, common-sense solutions to end mass incarceration and help people with criminal records successfully reintegrate into society. Our government’s “War on Drugs has destroyed families and communities for the last 50 years, without significantly eliminating or reducing crime. Further, our nation’s police departments need significant reform and culture change.

IMMIGRATION, FOREIGN POLICY AND
NATIONAL SECURITY

People waving American flags

John will ensure our diplomatic corps increases its diversity and is well-resourced to meet the enormous challenge of executing U.S. policy in every corner of the world.

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY

John is focused on the singular goal of fostering greater economic mobility and opportunity for all Americans. Toward this end, John has advocated for innovative policy measures to reward work through higher wages and better benefits, support of $15/hr minimum wage, and advance entrepreneurship and innovation.

ENVIRONMENT

All Americans should have access to clean water and clean air. John supports developing federal policies that lift up low-income communities, indigenous communities, and communities of color, which disproportionately bear the burden of environmental pollution and exploitation. The existential threat of climate change will exacerbate these inequities unless we act boldly with all due haste.

CIVIL RIGHTS

John has dedicated his public service career to protecting and advancing the rights of all Americans, especially those most vulnerable. He has worked to establish community based policing in his community. He is committed to ensuring all people are free from discrimination, regardless of their race, ethnicity, sex, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or age.

EDUCATION

John will work to ensure that all students have access to a high quality education making sure our nation’s teachers and early childhood educators have the resources and support they need, to improve educational outcomes for vulnerable students, educational equity will be central to his work.

VETERANS

John has made fighting for Texas service members, veterans, and their families a priority. From passing legislation to enhance accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs to closing critical gaps in education benefits and increasing access to timely, quality, and inclusive healthcare options. John is committed to ensuring our veterans receive the benefits they’ve earned through their service to our country. Let’s support veterans by not sending soldiers to unnecessary wars.

INFRASTRUCTURE

John believes we need to substantially increase the federal investment in our nation’s infrastructure in order to help rebuild and modernize aging water systems, dams, roads, bridges, rail systems, airports, and seaports. Infrastructural repairs and improvements will create jobs and make our nation more economically competitive and efficient.

POVERTY

This blueprint lays out a policy framework that would dramatically reduce poverty and restore the American dream along five core areas:

  • Building better jobs and wages

  • Valuing all families

  • Ensuring basic living standards

  • Investing in human capital

  • Removing barriers to opportunity

Families across America cannot afford to wait any longer. We need to build an economy that works for everyone, not just for the wealthy few.
