Meet John

John Love is a former member of the Midland City Council. He was elected three times from District 2 and served from January, 2013 until February, 2020. He was chosen twice by his colleagues as Midland’s Mayor Pro Tem.

While in that office, he served as the 110th president of the Texas Municipal League during the 2019 session of the Texas Legislature. The position is referred to colloquially as the “Mayor of Texas.”

As president, he worked with municipal leaders around the state to ensure that Texans can develop local solutions to local problems that affect their neighborhoods and communities.

When John Love left the city council, the Midland Reporter-Telegram praised him as a councilmember who “understands the need for quality roads and a well-thought-out transportation plan. He also was an effective and vocal representative of south and east Midland.”

John Love is a fee-based financial advisor and tax preparer who was voted “Best in Midland” by readers of the Midland Reporter-Telegram. John holds securities and insurance licenses and has extensive private-sector experience.

John owns Love Wealth Management, LLC and Paperwerks, a accounting and tax-preparation business started by his late mother, Joan Love, after she retired from the Post Office. John’s mom and dad both worked for the United States Postal Service and were members of the Letter Carriers Union.

In addition to his professional experience as a tax preparer and financial planner, John Love has a wealth of knowledge about Texas issues. He is a past chair of the Permian Basin Metropolitan Planning Organization. He was a gubernatorial appointee to the Texas Department of Transportation’s Border Trade Advisory Committee, where he dealt with international trade and transportation issues. He was the first president of the Midland Space Development Corporation, Midland having the first and only airport licensed by the FAA as a space port. He is the founding chair of the Midland Texas Coalition of Black Democrats.

John Love is a fifth-generation Texan and an honors graduate of Midland High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, where he graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Economics. John now lives in a property he inherited from his family in Pelham, Texas, which was originally founded as a freedman’s colony. Being there helps John reconnect with the values that allowed his family to overcome obstacles through faith in a better future and hard work.

John Love believes Texans deserve a Congressman who will work hard for them and serve with integrity. His campaign will be based on the Texas values we share and the experience we deserve.
